06-08-2012 J.Biz Remember there was a time when there was a soft drink called Tropical Fantasy and it was a broke person's real life fantasy? A 20 oz soft drink for fifty cents. What's not to like. I mean there were rumors that spread like the soda killed sperm cells but for half a buck, not a bad gamble. The Tropical Fantasy Bar and Lounge has similar properties.
Firstly there was no cover, on a Saturday night, which is hard to come by. They also only charged four bucks for a Red Bull which is about as cheap as it gets in a bar. Cannot attest for the quality or price for other drinks but judging by that experience the drinks could not be very expensive.
It's a Reggae/ Caribbean bar so the music reflects that. Heavy drum beat driven music reigns and not much variety.The music was played extremely loud. My ears were ringing for 3 days so beware. Also the decor can be summed up as lighted palm trees. No real creativity there.
Looking back, the drinks must have had a decent kick as there were about two skirmishes at one point, but overall very peaceful. Final verdict is if you like the music of the islands and want to get cheap drinks, then go for it. The second half of the last statement is probably enough for most.
