06-29-2011 J.Biz I went to this place with a comrade to celebrate a birthday. First impression was good. Had to climb stadium like steps to go in. A bit different than normal but a good touch. Bouncers at the door were friendly and the frisk was only about half of a TSA search.
Once inside you notice a pretty spacious venue. The decor is island/industrial so definitely nothing to gawk at. The music was a decent mix of Latin, bachata, merengue and Top 40. Sound system was good without being deafening.
The downside of La Boom was the service. The party of people I was with had bottle service and I never saw a waitress appear to address needs such as ice, cups or extra bottles if required. We were like Tom Hanks in Cast Away, minus the ball.
Overall it was a fun night. Zero hassle. Crowd wasn't too drunk or obnoxious, and didn't break the bank. coat check $3, admission was free before 12. Average venue.
